For lovers of the English countryside, Cerne Abbas has so much to offer - history, beautiful old buildings including the finest mediaeval street in Dorset, pubs, shops, a tea room and magnificent downland all around.

A great joy of Cerne is that it’s perfectly possible to spend a fully active week (or more!) here without ever using your car. Step outside the cottage, and you’re almost immediately onto the footpath network. A favourite short walk from the cottage, of about three miles, takes you through Cerne Park onto the Wessex Ridgeway, down Wancombe Hill to Up Cerne and then back to Cerne Abbas.

Cyclists will love this area too, with lots of quiet lanes and bridlepaths to explore.

This is an area teeming with wildlife - depending on the time of day you might see deer, fox or badger, hares and rabbits, whilst buzzards soar and drift on the thermals overhead.
