Cerne Abbas is more famous for its beer than any other place
in the County - BISHOP POCOCKE 1754

In the 1870's Cerne Abbas boasted 13 pubs and a prosperous brewing business - probably aided by the extensive malting that took place in the village.

Wancombe Cottage and the other cottages in the row are restored from and built upon the site of a former maltings.
The thatched cottage seen from the second bedroom was once the Union Arms, which closed in 1928.

Nowadays, the brewing and malting industries have long ceased although Cerne Abbas still has three pubs - The Royal Oak, The New Inn and The Giant.
